Exploring an Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have found a variety of interesting independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer features a hero that is actually a dung striving to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. Across 150 levels, encounter tough enemies and unlock a market to acquire customizations for your poop character.

Execute your jumps with caution, as a mistake forces starting over. Bounce using floating orbs to hurl your character to new heights, navigate fragile surfaces, and touch switches to open new areas. Collect currency for buying tougher levels where things ramps up.

Visually, the demo shows off vibrant environments and catchy soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style of morphing basic polygons evokes memories of fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to name previous releases where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft grenades from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as plant food. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present a lot in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive recognition, like winning at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on PC this November.
